Scott Larson Steps Down From UrtheCast
An email sent by outgoing CEO, Scott Larson to the employees of UrtheCast:
Dear friends and colleagues at UrtheCast:
It is with many mixed emotions that I announce that I am stepping down from UrtheCast, effective immediately. I had been thinking about my role here at UrtheCast for a while and this wasn’t an easy decision. That said, I know it is the right decision at the right time.
We started this company in my basement exactly five years ago, almost to the day, and have grown it together into something more than I ever thought possible. Along with all of you, I’ve put my heart and soul into UrtheCast and have loved being part of this extraordinary team. We have done things that actually have never been done before and I’m convinced UrtheCast will go on to do even greater and more remarkable things.
But, it is time for me to move on. I’m a start-up guy and I am proud to say that UrtheCast is no longer a start-up; it is now a fully operational company. While I had always assumed that I would move on when we had 100 employees or so, we now have well over 200. In fact, over 2 years ago I had asked the Board if it was time for me to me move on and let someone else come in and it wasn’t the right time then, but it is now.
It is time for me to step back and let the team that is in place take the vision that we have now, execute on it, and make it better and stronger.
UrtheCast has never been in a stronger position, with a truly world class team, a strong financial footing, and a competitive market position. We’ve got great visibility to revenue and the technology that you all are developing is amazing. I am incredibly proud of this company and of all of you. Some of you I know very well and count you among my closest friends, others I’ve only just met but collectively, I am honoured to have worked with all of you. As one of the company’s larger shareholders, I also look forward to see the great things you will all accomplish in the future.
I’m going to take some time off, spend some time with my family, and eventually look again to pursue my passion of finding and growing start-up companies. I’m excited to see what the future holds.
Moving forward, Wade is going to moving into the CEO role, which both the Board and myself think is the perfect fit. He is going to be talking a little more about this tomorrow, but I think the transition will be entirely seamless.
With my very best wishes,
