VIDEO: The UrtheCast Camera Launch Event

Watch the UrtheCast camera launch event, from start to finish.

On Nov. 25, 2013 the Progress 53P cargo ship carrying UrtheCast’s cameras reached orbit, following a successful launch from Kazakhstan’s Baikonur Cosmodrome. Travelling aboard a Soyuz rocket, UrtheCast’s two cameras — the world’s first 1-Metre Class, high-resolution Earth video camera and one medium-resolution imaging camera — are scheduled to arrive at the International Space Station (ISS) on November 29.

“As Member of Parliament for Vancouver Centre, I congratulate UrtheCast on this major space initiative. In a highly creative collaboration with Russia and the UK, UrtheCast will soon provide anyone with internet access to almost live streaming HD video of earth. These partnerships will also go to further the cultural and technological relations between the partner countries and Canada, furthering for the future a thrilling doorway into the development of this technological first. Congratulations to all of you in Vancouver and Baikonur!” — Dr. Hedy Fry, M.P.
