UrtheCast’s Hydrolab Action: Cosmonauts Simulate Camera Installation (VIDEO)

It isn’t that common to find underwater footage of the happenings at the Hydrolab, in Star City, Russia. Which is why being able to show you this video is especially exciting for us — that, and it’s just plain cool.

In late spring of this year, two full-scale camera mock-ups were used to simulate the UrtheCast camera installation on board the International Space Station (ISS), which is scheduled for fall of 2013. The underwater simulation was conducted by cosmonauts at the true-to-size replica of the Russian segment of the ISS, in the Hydrolab at Star City. They are the very same cosmonauts who will be installing our cameras, later this fall.
